About

Hey! I’m Raistlin van Spronsen, while I’m known for my photography and speed skating, there is so much more about me

I’m a photographer, advocate, and lifelong volunteer with a BIG passion for community, travel and events. You’ll find me running around with my camera, connecting with community members, or volunteering in the community. I’m a past coach of the former Dawson Creek Speed Skating Club, I bring a passion and energy to every thing I do, whether it’s at work or out in the community. I’m blessed to call this community my home for over 20 years.

I’m involved in a wide range of organizations:
The Ark Christian Youth Centre, Networks Ministries, Bethel Pentecostal Church, Social Media coordinator and assistant coach for the Dawson Creek Speed Skating Club.

I’ve also volunteered at a wide range of events including; Relay for Life, Terry Fox Run, and this year will be my 5th Hockey Canada event that I’ve been a part of the Game Operations & Ceremonies team. I’ve also been involved in countless Speed Skating BC and Speed Skating Canada events over the years in my role as a Level 2 Heat Box Steward official

When I’m not working or volunteering, you’ll probably find me walking, visiting with friends and spending time with my family

I’ve volunteered with a wide range of events dating back to 2012 when I participated in my first Relay For Life and captured some photos. This was the first time I captured photos other than my personal use. Over the years I captured a few different Relay For Life events.

However my involvement with events wasn’t limited to photography, I’ve served in a wide range of roles with a variety of organizations. Two of which I’ve spent the most time with

I have been involved with Speed Skating BC (and Speed Skating Canada) for nearly 20 years and over the years I’ve competed, coached and officiated. I currently hold a Provincial Official as a Clerk of the Course/Heat Box Steward (Level 2) and am a Fundamentals Coach. I’ve officiated at many local and provincial events between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John. I have been an assistant coach at 2 BC Winter Games events (2020 in Fort St. John and 2024 in Quesnel; speed skating was in Prince George) I’ve also served as Zone Rep for the 2024 and 2026 BC Winter Games

While my speed skating portfolio is extensive, I also have been involved in every Hockey Canada national/international event since 2015 when Dawson Creek first hosted our first international hockey event. I’ve volunteered at the 2015 & 2017 World U17 Championships, 2019 Junior A Challenge, 2023 U18 Women’s National Championships, and the 2025 Para Cup.

I thoroughly enjoy working directly with officials from Hockey Canada and Speed Skating Canada in delivering high quality sporting events in our Northeastern region
