Why I love being an artist

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

Photography is so much more than snapping photos with your iPhone or fancy camera. It’s a well crafted art of exposure, light balance, focus, and creativity.

The beginning

I first got into photography back in 2009 when I was gifted a point and shoot camera. It was then that I realized I loved taking photos, that point and shoot camera went with me everywhere as it was small and fit in my pocket. It captured many speed skating events, family vacations, and many more events I attended with my family or our church youth group.

Next Step: Intermediate Era

These cameras didn’t last very long, a few years later I upgraded to a long-zoom lens camera (my Fujifilm FinePix S2950) This camera was the first camera I ever purchased, if im not mistaken it was about $300 brand new. It has a long zoom lens, however its not a DSLR with interchangeable lenses. I used this one until 2014, when I got my first professional style camera. Hers a few photos taken with my Fujifilm camera

Next Step: Establishing my business era

It wasn’t until 2014, that I bought my first DSLR, which was a Canon Rebel T3, I captured a number of events using that camera and even established the basis of my business using my Rebel T3. This is when I really enforced my passion for photography through the sport of speed skating as my basis to begin building my portfolio.

Next Step: Professional Era

In April 2018, I upgraded from my Canon Rebel T3 to my Canon EOS 77D,which was definitely the most I’ve ever spent on camera gear and have been using my 77D ever since. I sold off my T3 as it would be collecting dust the past 8 years

I don’t see any immediate changes in my photography equipment,  I may add a few lenses in the next few years to build out a more versatile collection. I don’t however see myself switching over to mirrorless from my DSLR system
