Where it all began

This summer probaly has been one of my favourites in the last few years since before COVID-19 when there was virtially nothing do as a result of the ongoing pandemic. However we are far from the summer 2020. So what have I been doing with my summer.

I’ve been working at both Networks Ministries and The Ark Christian Youth Centre this summer in various capacities throughout the summer. While these commitments fill up my weeks, the weekends have been full of fun, friends and adventures from July through to September

Canada Day - Pouce Coupe

The summer events usually begin on July 1st, the annual Canada Day celebrations as we celebrate this beautiful country we call home. Despite the parade being short in nature (about 15 minutes) it’s always good to get out to Pouce Coupe and see everyone celebrating our country. Thankfully as part of the festivities, the Village of Pouce Coupe pays for BC Transit to run a shuttle bus between Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe. The bus leaves the Co-op and travels down 8th Street towards Edmonton. As we arrive in Pouce Coupe we turn off of the highway onto 50th Street before turning down the alley way and stopping behind the Post Office. We would then walk down the main street (49th Avenue) and turning down 51st Street where we’d watch the parade.

After the parade, we’d make our way back to the bus where it was parked behind the Post Offfice. Since the bus didn’t leave for about 20 minutes, my friends would stand outside and enjoy the fresh air. Just before departure, we’d board the bus and find our seats near the rear of the bus. The bus then left the designated spot and turned up 51 Street towards the school where we drove to the designated spot at the Ball Diamonds before turning around and coming back to the street and the highway back to town. After arriving back into Dawson my friends and I went for lunch at Post & Row, a local restaurant in town before heading back home

2024 Summer Car Show

The annual car show is an event that I always enjoy attending year after year. With always new cars joining, it makes for a great day in Downtown Dawson Creek. After a few hours of wandering around and taking photos it was time for lunch. This time we ended up at Brown’s Social House (we pick particular places as there’s a couple of people we know who tend to bum money off of others, as a result some establishments have banned them from visiting) I had no idea the cops were outside…

2024 Fall Fair

Fall Fair is one of the biggest events in town and is the busiest. From local restaurants being packed to congestion on the streets the town is very busy with all the visitors attending the events. While the fair kicks off on a Wednesday, I’m often working until Thursday (I take Friday through Monday off) as I take an extended weekend for the Fall Fair. On Friday morning I’m either watching or participating in the Fall Fair Parade such as this year I was park of The Ark Christian Youth Centre’s float. After the parade we went for lunch before heading down to the Fair grounds. I’d spend most of the day there along with all day Saturday (I’d be there from noon to about 11pm) before catching a ride on the bus (transit ran a community shuttle for 2024 on Friday and Saturday

Summer 2025 plans

While Summer 2024 is wrapping up, I’m already planning for next summer. Considering I haven’t taken an actual vacation in over 5 years I’m planning a trip next year. I haven’t chosen where I am going yet. I have narrowed it down to a few options. This is also going to be scheduled around my current work/community events schedule (which is most likely the same for 2025)
