Our Home Office

As a photographer and content creator, having a space to plan, edit and produce my content is crucial. This allows me to have a dedicated home office space. While it isn’t a separate room in my home compared to others, it is a space dedicated to work whether that’s planning upcoming trips, planning on which events I’ll be attending and so much more.

Custom Built Desktop PC

Instead of going and finding a pre-built desktop PC that might serve my needs, I opted to custom build my current PC which is still running strong after 6 years. It houses an Intel i7-6700, 2GB Graphics Adapter, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 500GB SSD. While it is a great machine it does have it’s drawbacks in certain applications. Due to the lack of a dedicated graphics card, photo editing can become tedious and lengthy to complete the task. It does fine for video editing except when playing back 4K videos they look skippy until uploaded to YouTube where they play fine.

Office Desk

Both my office desk and office chair were upgraded in 2024. I had bought my original desk in 2020 from Facebook Marketplace and it had served it’s purpose well over the years but was starting to fall apart. This led me to look into replacements for it, however before I had a chance to purchase one my Dad surprised me with one

Office Chair

Having needing to work countless hours on many projects, means sitting for extended period of time. Having a chair that will keep up to the demands it important. This office chair is another one that I purchased having gotten it off of Amazon to ensure that I have a dedicated chair to sit on rather than a cheap Walmart one

Office Accessories

In addition to my desktop PC, desk and office chair I have a bunch of accessories that I have bought or acquired over the years

The first main upgrade was going from a 24″ HP monitor to to a 27″ Dell monitor making it easier to see things as it has anti-glare features and a wider display.  My RGB Keyboard and mouse set was a gift from a friend.

In addition to the main accessories I also have a USB microphone which I use for voice overs during my trip reports if needed, a mini-Yoda, speakers from Walmart and a Palm Pals mascot (known as Fall Maple Leaf) which I’ve named Timbit (although a few people have a different name for him)

I also like having a favorite photo on my desk. It reminds me this is real life, not just a screen, and it quietly brings some of my people into the room while I’m working.

Future Office Upgrades

Having a well set up office space is essential, and while it is functional for the current time being, there are things I eventually do want to upgrade to build my dream office space.

Sit/Stand Adjustable Desk this will allow me to work either sitting down or standing up depending on the task

Monitor Stand having one of these will allow me to no only raise my monitor up a bit but also having storage underneath for my phone, laptop and future devices

USB Hub as a content creator who eventually wants to start filming on my camera and phone a USB hub would be very beneficial for any project

New Desktop PC this is most likely the largest component to the upgrade. My new PC be an AMD run machine with a recent AMD R5 or R7 chipset, along with at least 32 GB DDR5 RAM providing faster speeds to open files, at least a 1TB SSD m.2 hard drive, and finally a dedicated (at least 12 GB) either GeForce RTX or Radeon RX graphics card allowing me to run the latest photo editing programs without lag. All of this will also have a new case with RGB cooling and a effective airflow management to minimize dust
